Wall Art Photo… MISSING!!

It is Tuesday night at 7:01pm. Lots of times I will prepare a post ahead of time and schedule it to go "live" to my blog at a specific time, usually around 5am. So today's post was supposed to be about a piece of wall art that I painted recently for a friend. It was really cute!

I have spent the last 3 hours frantically searching my laptop for the photos. It seems they have disappeared into thin air. Here's what happened. I open the folder to view the files, I go blank for a while (not literally; I just can't remember anything for a while), then my daughter comes to get the camera, which is unplugged and laying beside me. Obviously, I put the pics on the computer, if I disconnected it. I can't find them anywhere. When my daughter goes to download her photos off the same camera, my 4 photos aren't there, indicating I deleted them when I downloaded them.

FRUSTRATION!!! I honestly have looked and searched and even gone to system restore! I guess I have to give up.

I could show you the sketch that I did as a sample for me to go by, but I changed some things and the sample is nowhere near as cute as the actual painting was! It had crystals and bling and sparkle and was soooo cute! Even if I do say so myself.

I guess you'll have to take my word for it.

Thanks for stopping by today… sorry you wasted your time.  LOL Well, I guess you did waste your time. Hmmm… what can I do to make it so you haven't wasted your time?

How about this? For today's post ONLY, if you leave a comment, which means you had to read the post to find out this, you get rewarded. I will give you a FREE .pdf file that I have to offer. You can choose from the Card Holder Tutorial shown in the photo at the right, the Business Card Holder Tutorial (you can see a photo of it under 3D projects—I will make the tutorial this week), the polka-dotted patterned paper I made with My Digital Studio (look under My Digital STudio to see this), or you can choose 3 of the My Digital Studio transparency sheets (you can see these under My Digital Studio to pick the ones you want).

How about that? We are talking about a value of at least $2.95 and up to $4.95! FREE for you! Let's see what happens now! What? Yes, for each of you that leave a comment. You see, it has already made me feel less negative by offering to give something away! So in essence, if you leave me a comment, you are cheering me up! This offer is good until Friday April 16, 2010. If you are late catching up on commenting or reading my posts, send me an email… maybe I will give it to you free later too!

Now, thanks for stopping by today!

Interesting FREE Scrapbook supplies!

I have located some awesome FREEBIES over the past couple of days. I haven't felt really well—can I say Multiple Sclerosis SUCKS!—so I have spent most of the time on the Internet and watching TV, which I love to do. I don't have any projects to share with you, which is a bummer, but who doesn't love FREEBIES!! I think this is Being GREEN too, because you are saving the gas it would take to buy similar papers or photos at a store.

Today I will share with you some free JPEGS that will make great background papers or that you can use as a focal element. If you have My Digital Studio, you can even import these JPEGS and use them in a layout. You can order My Digital Studio from me and get a free stamp set, if you order before March 31, 2010!If the size is not something you prefer, you can use Paint.Net, which is a great FREE photo editing tool. I use it to put my name overlay on the photos you see, mainly because it is SUPER SIMPLE! I will show you how to do that soon.

These photos are royalty-free, which means there is no copyright for them, according to the site I got them from, which I can't seem to find right now. I can say that I found it through Life on the Scrap Beach, which is a community for those who love to scrapbook and create. Anyway, these are some random images that I liked, so I thought I would share them with you! Print them out and add them to your next project!

Click on each photo to make it larger. To save it for your own use, right click on the enlarged photo and click SAVE IMAGE AS.

Big Shot vs. Cricut: Fabric & Your Big Shot Part 1

The winner of the Blog Candy contest will be announced tomorrow 3/2/10! Thanks to everyone for participating!

Today is day 1 of a 5 day series on using fabric and your Big Shot. I hope you will enjoy these posts, but most of all, call to book a workshop, so we can play!! You will see several projects and learn amazing tips about using fabric and the Big Shot. If you are an embroiderer, seamstress, or just love to craft, the Big Shot is fantastic for all!

There is a standing debate among crafters as to which die cutting system is the best. While some are electronic, others are manual. I will admit, I have both the Big Shot and a Cricut Expression.

Some of you have the Cricut already and think you don't need a Big Shot. Here are 10 reasons why you need a Big Shot!

  1. You can use texture plates and embossing folders with the Big Shot to give your paper (and starched fabrics) some dimension! You can't do that with a Cricut at all!
  2. The Big Shot dies are pre-measured to cut the perfect dimensions for card embellishments. No more wasted paper as you try to figure out the correct size.
  3. The Big Shot dies can be used thousands of times before needing to be sharpened, which is easily accomplished by running some metal from the inside of a soda can through it. The other systems can't be sharpened and the Cricut recommends you to replace a mat and blade ever 40 cuts! The Big Shot cutting mats can be used hundreds of times!
  4. There are Big Shot dies for standard box sizes. You know exactly the size of box you will get! Again, no more wasting paper guessing the size you need!
  5. Just like any other die cut system you can cut thin metal, chipboard, paper, cardstock, vinyl, and fabric. What you may not know is you can cut paper that is glittered, flocked, handmade, and layered with the Big Shot. Try that with the Cricut, and you will buy a new mat after each piece, and don't even try really thick materials without purchasing a "thick cut blade"!
  6. The Big Shot cuts fabric, up to 8 layers of cotton, with ease, and will also cut fur, felt, fleece, and other fuzzy materials with no hassle! With the Cricut you can only cut one layer at the time, plus the Cricut recommends you iron freezer paper over the fabric first before cutting fabric. What a hassle! As for cutting anything fuzzy, forget about it. It will ruin your mat!
  7. Not only is the Big Shot less expensive up front, the dies cost much less too! Dies for the Big Shot vary in price from $5.50 up to $42.95, which is less than half the price of the other die cutting system's dies! Alphabet dies will cost around $89.00 for the Big Shot too.
  8. You will not incur any miscellaneous expenses when using the Big Shot. See #2, 3, 4, 5, 6!
  9. The Big Shot weighs less than half weight of a Cricut.
  10. The Big Shot is easy to use at a crop or party. No cords required, so you don't have to crop near an outlet; you can be where everyone else is!

Are you ready to order? Click on the button on the right side panel, where you can save money off the catalog price by ordering directly from me. Still not convinced? Book a workshop with me, and I will bring my Big Shot for us to make a project with. You will love it! Plus, with the benefits of being a hostess, you can save even more off the catalog price!!

Excuse #1 I'm not creative enough: You don't have to be! Stampin' Up! has plenty of ideas for you! You can find ideas on the Demonstrator Website, Stampin' Connection (a forum for demonstrators), Stampin' Up! videos, and Stampin' Success magazine. That's not enough? There are thousands of demonstrators out there that have their own blog where they post projects they have made. There are thousands of videos on YouTube too that are all using Stampin' Up! products! You can even check out my blog for daily inspiration!

Excuse #2 I'm not a salesperson: Neither am I. I just love making beautiful gifts, cards, and scrapbooks. The selling is done by the products. They are fantastic products, and your projects will help sell them. Just tell your friends what you are making; trust me, they will want to know more!

Excuse #3 I'm not good at business: Just as Stampin' Up! demonstrators provide their customers with one-stop shopping and individualized service, Stampin' Up! provides its demonstrators with the opportunity to pursue their individual goals whether those goals are to enjoy a hobby, build a thriving business, or contribute to family income while spending more time at home. Whether you'd like to earn money to pay for your stamping supplies, create a full or part-time career, or simply get a discount on your stamping supplies, Stampin' Up! will help you do it.

Excuse #4 I don't have time to do anything: You really do. It doesn't take long. Your first card may take you an hour or two, but after you have made a couple, you can make a card in 5 minutes! I have been rushing out the door to a birthday party only to realize I didn't have a gift. I was able to make a card and stick in some money in less than 5 minutes! It really is simple. You will find that you can squeeze in some time at night, while the kids are napping, while you are waiting for the clothes to dry, etc. There is time in your week. Once you start creating, you will look for more time. It is therapeutic! It calms me, gets my mind off the stresses of the day!

Excuse #5 I don't know anybody else that does crafts: You don't have to!! You will find them. Here are my 10 ways to find customers:

  1. Host an Open House and invite your friends and family. Let them know what you are doing.
  2. Have samples to show them and invite them to host a demonstration (party). They will because they are your friends. If they don't, then ask them to! They are your friends, ask for the favor from at least 2 of them. You will see that when they invite 10-15 people, at least one of them will be interested in hosting a demonstration too! The ball keeps rolling that way.
  3. Make an incentive for booking a workshop. If there are no bookings and the workshop is winding down, have a "prize", or handmade gift, available and offer it to the first person to book a workshop! I usually take 2 and offer it to the first two that book, and I only use this technique if I haven't gotten any bookings. You could also use a drawing system. Everyone who books gets their name in the hat to win the free gift!
  4. Host a blog, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and/or website. You can find customers online. I did. Posting a picture on Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter takes just seconds!! As you build a clientele, you might want to add a blog or website where you post photos and instructions for projects. You should also invest in a DBWS (your Stampin' Up! business website or store, where your customers can order online in their pj's!)
  5. Make a few small samples for your purse. (You might need to carry a bigger purse.) I carry a couple of pairs of earrings, a flower barrette, a business card holder, a small gift bag, and a card.
  6. Use your samples when you are waiting in the doctor's office, at the dentist, at the nail salon, at the hairdresser's, or in the carpool line, and you can take the opportunity to talk to people about Stampin' Up! Even if you can't "cold call" people and just start talking about what you do, there are tricks to let the conversation start itself! For example, many people will carry with them something to stamp or color with markers or take a small project to work on. I carry these small projects listed in #5 and then pull them out and mess with them as if I am trying to get a "gift" prepared. Someone will ask you about the items, such as, "Where did you get that?" This opens the door so you can then talk about Stampin' Up! products. Tell them about an upcoming Open House and how you would love to invite them. Tell them about the benefits of hosting their own demonstration. Don't forget to give them your business card!
  7. You also need to carry a mini catalog (I keep 2 Idea Book and Catalogs in the car just in case) and business cards.
  8. Your business cards need your name, phone number, and email so people can get in touch with you to host a demonstration or to place an order.
  9. I have been known to pretend that I have a disorganized purse and can't find my credit card, and pull a project or two out of my purse and lay it on the grocery counter. Usually when there is nobody behind me (or maybe only another person or two). I continue "looking", and the cashier will usually comment about the projects. That is the start. I will then find my card, and start talking about Stampin' Up! I sold some items to a cashier two aisles down from my cashier once, just because my cashier and I were talking about it!
  10. Always be prepared. You will never know who or when someone will come up and say, "I heard you were doing some craft projects. What do you do, and can I learn how?"

10 reasons for you to become a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.

  1. Get ideas for handmade cards, scrapbook pages, and home decor projects. Sources: Stampin' Connection, Demonstrator Website, Stampin' Success monthly magazine, Stampin' Up! videos, and more!
  2. Learn new, artistic stamping techniques on a monthly basis from Stampin' Success magazine
  3. Gain first access to popular product lines and exclusive, award-winning designs. Stampin' Up! is the #1 rubber stamp company in the world.
  4. Get a 20 percent discount on Stampin' Up! products. You can even get more as you sell more!
  5. Be your own boss, and establish a flexible business that meets your goals. If you don't want to work this week, then don't! If you want to work 7 days a week, you can do that too! You are the boss! Do you want to get off work early, ask yourself!
  6. Spend more time with family when you work from home with a schedule that fits you and your family.
  7. Be eligible to attend Stampin' Up!'s fabulous conferences and events.
  8. Earn free exotic trips (like cruises and vacations) and other recognition (like free rubber stamps, cash awards, and other valuable prizes).
  9. Meet new friends and enrich lives while sharing what you love.
  10. Receive support and training from Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Website, Stampin' Connection, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator support, Stampin' Up! videos, and Stampin' Success magazine.

Headaches, Organization Ideas, and Hot Tips!

I am fighting the worst series of migraines that I have ever had this week. BUT I will not fail in blogging every single day this year!

I found these awesome cardboard boxes at Wally World. I have wanted some forever. The lowest price I could find was $14 for one large box, that wasn't as large as these large boxes. Plus, the snap together design of the ones I looked at was a problem according to the user reviews. These boxes bolt together, hopefully reducing any chance of "snaps not lining up" or "popping apart". I will post photos later of how they look on my shelves. I have posted photos of my organized, but chaotic--because everything is in see-thru bins and in various colors-- shelves.

There are 2 of the Large boxes in one pack, 3 of the Medium boxes in one pack, and 2 of the Large boxes in one pack--each pack is only $8! The quality of these boxes is questionable. I will report back about their strength, since they are just made of chipboard. I am excited to try and organize my craft room even better. Click on the photos for larger views to see what sizes the boxes are. Someone leave me a comment if the photos are really, really large when you click on them. I can't get it to work for me... may be the headache.

Now for your Hot Tips!
  • Swear to tell the truth, the whole truth. Be brutally honest with yourself and your organizational habits. Take it from me, I moved into a new room with the plan and organization to keep everything neat. It hasn't happened. Mainly I think it is because the space looks messy even though it is organized. Hence the white boxes. I will be more tidy in a less chaotic space; I hope so at least.
  • Hi-Ho...Hi-Ho! It's Off to work we go. Provide yourself with a work table. Ideally, you should be able to spread out the items for your project and still be able to work. Even if your craft space is in a closet, get a table to work on (I have one friend that honestly works on the floor inside her narrow step-in (you really can't walk-in) closet.
  • Location, Location, Location. Keep most used items near your work station. If you use your quilting ruler for every project, make sure there is a space for it near your work table, so you can just reach and get it. Having to repeatedly go to find your tools or materials, slows the creative process, and sets you up for a messy space, because it is not likely to be cleaned up if you are just going to get it out the next day.
  • What's Your Sign? Decide what type of organization you need. Your choices are by craft (sewing, paper, painting), by color (such as grouping all of one color paper together or one color of fabric together.), by theme or brand (such as Christmas, coordinated sets, kits).
  • Group Therapy. Keep in mind when organizing that keeping like items together will reduce your chance of double purchases and give you full view of what you have available to use for your project. For example, keep all paper together, from scraps to full size sheets. For more information on paper storage look at this post.
  • Are you an Open or Closed crafter? Also decide if you need open or closed storage. Open storage includes clear bins that you can see through to know what you have on hand (especially important if you are the type to buy something, then realize you have one already at home. This is also a great method for those who need inspiration, with your products being visible, you can look and see what you would like to use to create.) Closed storage tucks like items away neatly to create a very unified appearance (this is what I hope to achieve at some point. It reduces visual clutter and enhances creativity from a blank slate.)
  • Beg, borrow, and steal. Finally, decide on your budget. Ok, so don't steal, but you can spend as little or as much as you would like when organizing a craft space. There are fantastic storage options for every budget. Even the very frugal budgets can create a neatly organized space with little to no money, just a bit of ingenuity, some left over boxes, and a thrift store.
Stampin' Up! has some great storage products, from photo storage boxes to ribbon holders to paper storage. Call, comment, or email for more information. How about this special? Get $10 off your first order of $100 or more! Offer expires February 1, 2010. Thanks for stopping by today.

Announcements!

How do you like my Page Banner? I made it with My Digital Studio! It is so easy and fun to play around with the different stamps and embellishments. I love the freedom the program gives me. If you still haven't ordered your copy of My Digital Studio, contact me today! We can add it to your order of other Sale items!

Hosting a Stampin' Up! Workshop

As I told you recently, I am now a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. That means I am available to you for workshops. Stampin' Up! workshops are like the parties for most other companies. The difference is that these parties are interactive! You will make an item using Stampin' Up! materials, and you will get to take it home with you! The project may be a card, a set of tags for gifts, a small gift item, or other project of the hostess' choice.

When you are ready to host a make and take workshop just contact me. It doesn't require as much space as you think it would. You could even have it at another location, such as your church or my house (ask about this option). Hostess benefits are a FREE stamp set and $15.00 in FREE merchandise when the party order totals $150 or more. The more sales you have at your party the more FREE stuff you get! Click on the photo for more information.

How can you be sure you have a successful workshop? Try these simple steps to have the best workshop possible. I will also be helping you every step of the way.
(1) Send the postcard invitations in plenty of time before the party.
(2) Make personal contact with each invitee the week before the party. Emails can be ignored and forgotten, so a face-to-face meeting or phone call will be best.
(3) It is VERY important to call each person you invited one or two days before the party. Everyone gets busy and forgets things. By calling, you are not being pushy, you are just getting the final number of crafters for me to prepare the materials.
(4) Lightly encourage people to buy something from you, a- If you tell people they do not have to buy anything, they won't; and b-- Think of it this way, if 10 people attend your party and each person purchased $15, you will have met your goal before you even place your own order!!
(5) Finally, Stampin' Up! encourages your party sales to close within 48 hours of the party. That means that you should do any out of party sales ahead of time. This is a perfect opportunity for you to sell to those guests who "can't make it, but wish they could".

Like I said, I will be with you every step of the way. I will do ALL the hard work. All you have to do is provide the people! At the party we will have a blast making a project that each person will LOVE. After the project, guests can place orders, have a small snack, and look at more samples on the sample board. I have several projects that I could do in a workshop. If you book a workshop with me you will be given choices of projects for me to do!

If you are interested in hosting a Stampin' Up! Make and Take Workshop with me, please call of email today! Thanks for stopping by today.

Build-A-Bear Workshop and Stampin' Up!

Today I am going to tell you about a new line of products that Stampin' Up! added. We now sell Build-A-Bear rubber stamps, papers, and dies for the Big Shot. Click to view these items up close. There are even more products available!

I have on order the dies for the Big Shot. Of course, that meant I had to order the Big Shot too. Some of you, especially those of you at schools, may already have a Big Shot, Sizzix, or Ellison machine. If you do, you are all set and all you would need to do is order the dies. We have dies for the Build-A-Bear, outfits for the boy and the girl, accessories for the boy and the girl, plus holiday oufits! I know schools are cutting back this year, but how cute and easy would these bears be to decorate your classroom? How about getting several teachers to pitch in together or approach the PTO about a purchase for the school.

Not a teacher? How about this idea for a child's birthday party? Cut several bears in different colors of cardstock, cut outfits for boys/girls in plain white paper, and let the children at the party decorate the bears and their outfits with crayons as a take home treat! Plus, you can use the die cuts to decorate for the party and the birthday cake! Don't stop there! Cuta bear and several outfits out of magnet sheet that you covered with patterned paper or colored cardstock. Laminate each piece and cut them out. Place them all in a decorative tin. You now have a great party gift for little money and in thesame amount of time it would take you to go to town and pick out a gift!

Would you like to see a demonstration of any of these ideas or techniques? I could show you how to use the dies to make the bears, invitations, cards, and decorations. Contact me today to book a workshop!

My Digital Studio

Today is the day!!! Today is the first day to order this wonderful new digital scrapbooking program Stampin' Up has to offer! For $79.95 you can get the My Digital Studio (#118108) software program. This program makes scrapbook pages in 5 minutes. 5 minutes! Imagine in one Saturday afternoon how many completely embellished scrapbook pages you can create! There are so many beautiful templates that you can use, and all you have to do is pop in a photo. You can scan photos into your computer, but I know you already have 100's on your hard drive like me. This program is so easy to install and so easy to use! Check out this sample from my upline Ann Clemmer. This is her dog Stamper. Now isn't this page beautiful! You take your digital photos and you can make them larger or smaller using the easy tools in the program!

I have always loved making scrapbook pages, but they take so much time. I am looking forward to using this software to create dozens of pages in the couple of hours it would take me to make one traditional scrapbook page. Of course, I can't completely give up my paper and glue. I just love traditional pages too. The most time-consuming part of traditional scrapbooking is choosing the papers, picking out embellishments, and deciding on a layout for the photos. The great thing about My Digital Studio (#118108) is that you can create the page in the software from scratch in 10-15 minutes, giving you a easy mess free way to decide on a layout. Because eveything in the MyDigital Studio is coordinated with the Stampin' Up! line of colors, stamps, and embellishments, and includes many of the Stampin' Up! stamp sets in a digital form, you can easily take the digital version and create it using the traditional method. Too much expense to have all those embellishments on hand? Print them from My Digital Studio and create a hybrid page using your cardstock and photo with the digitally created embellishments or embellished photo.

But the fun doesn't stop there! You can create calendars, cards (like those photo Christmas cards), scrapbook pages of many different sizes, and more! Do you have a website or blog? You can make buttons, banners, backgrounds, etc. using My Digital Studio too! I will show you some examples over the next few weeks. My plan is to create a photo album for my parents for Christmas. Ooh, and a beautiful wedding album for their 43rd anniversary in January!

What do you do when you have made a page on My Digital Scrapbook? Well, Stampin' Up! offers professional printing services for you. Right now you can choose the 8"x8" full color personalized hard-cover album for $49.95 for 22 personally created pages. You can add up to 100 pages for $2.95 a page more. Of course, you can print it yourself on your color printer onto cardstock or go to your public library and have it color printed on their high quality machine (Opp Library color copies are $1.00 per page). Then you can add those pages to your own album.

How about this deal? If you place an order of $400 or more (or if you host a party and sell $400 or more), you can get My Digital Studio for 50% off. That is $39.97!

Wouldn't it be a nice gift to give a completed scrapbook to your parents or grandparents or both? Contact me to place an order for My Digital Studio today. Thanks for stopping by today.
