Creative Challenge Card #2 Pumpkin

Ok, so I never said I was an artist. I also never said I was really creative. Honestly, I am not creative at all. What I do have the talent for is seeing something that someone else has done, such as punch art, and thinking of ways to change it. Can I look at scallop punch and see a dahlia flower? Yes, but only because someone showed me how to do that. I can't look at a bunch of punches and see anything but shapes. God bless those that can, because I LOVE punch art!

This idea originated from Sophia and this post on Andrea Walford's blog. I got to thinking that if she can take a simple circle punch and make it an orange (a beautifully realistic orange mind you) then maybe I could look at my punches and see what I could create. Well, nothing. BUT I did see my Ornament Punch and decided that it would look like a pumpkin (sort of) with the bottom tip clipped off, or it could look like a radish (as Sydney Grace (9) said) without the bottom clipped off.

I opted for the pumpkin.

Here is how to make this card. Soft Suede cardstock cut at 4 1/4" x 11" scored and folded at 5 1/2". Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock 3 1/2" x 3 7/8" and sponge edges with Pumpkin Pie classic ink, then attach it to the Old Olive cardstock and attach the Old Olive to the Soft Suede card base. Cut a second piece of Whisper White 2" x 2 1/2" and punch using an Ornament Punch. Optional: Punch using Old Olive or Soft suede cardstock just the top of the Ornament Punch as shown, or color the top with Old Olive or Soft Suede Stampin' Marker. Punch a Modern Label punch from Pumpkin pie cardstock. To round off the bottom of the pumpkin, I just trimmed it with my Paper Snips. I stamped the Happy Thanksgiving sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set on Whisper white using Old Olive ink and punch it out using the Word Window punch.

To color the pumpkin, I sponged (in a swirling motion) crushed curry all over the pumpkin. Then I took pumpkin pie and swirled it all over except where the light would hit my pumpkin. Then I took dusty durango andswirled it starting opposite the light source and swirled it 1/4 of the way in. Finally I took Really Rust and sponged it opposite the light source as the darker value and shadow. You could really go much darker for the pupmkin than I did, since there are many varieties of pumpkins.

Finally, I added Dimensionals to the back of the word window punch and stuck it to the modern label. I used Snail adhesive to attach the Modern Label punch to the card. Add Dimensionals to the back of the pumpkin and attach it to the card. I added some soft suede staw for the pumpkin to sit on so it wouldn't be floating in the air (you should always ground your stamps with a swipe of your marker, if nothing else). Cut 12" of Pumpkin Pie 5/8" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon and tie a knot across the bottom.

I hope you enjoyed this card. Email me if you have any questions.
