Make Your Own Tool Caddy!!

This week I completed the RE-organization of my craft room. I then started working on altering some of the things around the room, such as the lids to the jars of ribbons, the bulletin board, etc.

I also needed a new tool caddy that worked better for me. I had one that was square and had 4 sections. This really wasn't enough sections, so I also had jars of tools standing around too. Let's just say I hated that. So, with no money and a big need, I set out to create something that would work. I saw an idea for a gift caddy that used two of the Fancy Favor die bags. I thought something that just expanded along this same idea might work for a tool caddy too!!

SDC10288 I used the Fancy Favor Die and cut out 6 of the little bags. I am sorry, but I used Baja Breeze Cardstock, which is retired from Stampin’ Up! I did NOT fold the side scores, so they would sit more like a box. I secured each box with Sticky Strip. I then attached 3 boxes in a row using Sticky Strip between each. I repeated this with the remaining 3 boxes. Finally, I attached the two rows of boxes to each other using Sticky Strip. I finished of the bottom with a thick piece of chipboard that I covered with cardstock to coordinate.

SDC10293 To decorate the piece, I used two pieces of Chocolate Chip cardstock that were 2 1/4” x 11”. I scored them at 1 1/2” on one end, then flipped it all the way around and scored it at 5” from the opposite side. I then attached them to the caddy using Sticky Strip with the 1 1/2” piece on the front. Tip: to make them line up evenly, you will want to measure up 1/2” from the bottom of the caddy and make a mark. This way you will have each side lined up. The other ends will meet and slightly overlap on the back side. Just be sure to line them up.I then created a label for the front using a 7 3/8" x 2 1/4" piece of chocolate chip cardstock layered with a 6 7/8" x 1 3/4" piece of whisper white cardstock.

SDC10291 You will really need to use Sticky Strip for this project just to prevent anything coming apart with repeated use. Finally, I added an embellishment using flowers from the Pretties Kit, Chocolate Chip corduroy brads, and a computer printed handmade sign (don’t you hate when your hubby hogs the computer!!).

This caddy could be created using 4, 6, 8, or MORE Fancy Favor bags. You could use it for makeup sponges, cotton balls, Q-tips, jewelry, art supplies, crayons, markers, cardstock scraps, ribbon scraps, patterned paper scraps, baby necessities, or candy holders!! The possibilities are endless. I think this would make an awesome gift for a baby shower, if you fill the sections with baby essentials!

  1. Super cute project! Love it! I love how you can personalize the caddy to your taste and if you get sick of it - just make a new one!
